Maurizio Barbeschi earned his degree cum laude in Chemistry from La Sapienza University, specializing in spectroscopic analysis. His thesis work was conducted in collaboration with the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.

Centro Volta

(Como, Italy)

As Director of the ChemBio Security Program at Centro Volta, Barbeschi led national and international research on chemical and biological weapons (CBW) security. His work included coordination models for emergency planning, treaty implementation, and multilateral disarmament agreements.

Shell Chemicals
(Royal Dutch Shell Group)

Began career in applied R&D and product innovation in polyurethane technologies used in fridges, surfboards, and medical devices. At Shell’s Special Polymer Division, Barbeschi coordinated technical and marketing functions across Europe, working with engineering teams in the Netherlands and research labs in Belgium. He later led Shell’s polyurethane technology business in Italy, building market strategies and expanding a European network for specialty polymers.

World Health Organization
(Geneva, Switzerland)

Barbeschi launched and coordinated six WHO Collaborating Centers across four continents, advancing research on CBRN preparedness, infectious disease risk, and mass gatherings. With over 60 publications, his research has informed global policy on health emergencies, disarmament, and crisis response.

Politecnico di Milano

As a Senior Research Fellow at the Politecnico di Milano’s Department of Management Engineering, Barbeschi focused on innovation management, R&D policy, and technology transfer. He conducted industry-focused research, advised high-tech companies, and contributed to policy frameworks on chemical safety and international treaties.

Flinders University
(Adelaide, Australia)

Served as an Adjunct Professor of Global Health Security at Flinders University, contributing academic expertise to international health risk strategies.
